I feel privileged to get to discover the hidden gems of the world – the truly hidden ones. The only thing that makes it better is sharing them with you. Of course, hidden gems don’t come around in every trip but then they do, I get the best feeling!
Spain is many things: beach, bullfighting, and flamenco. What many tourists are unaware of is the rich heritage of northern Spain. Asturias in particular. We were looking for a weekend getaway somewhere we hadn’t been before. Oviedo, we thought, had the raw nature and mystique we live for.
Our first trip of 2018 was to Oviedo, a small mining city in Asturias, our new favourite destination in Spain. Cities in Northern Spain have a different vibe. Elegant, ancient, Oviedo has the best tapas we have tried and its rocky streets lead to wild nature.

One of its most beautiful places is the monument to King Alfonso I “El Batallador”, who reconquered the City of Zaragoza from Arabic ruling in the year 1118. It is at the top of the hill, offering stunning views of Zaragoza. I recommend going there at sunset.
Barcelona is, in many ways, a vibrant city and a melting pot for fashion and culture. It is; however, expensive, massified, and unauthentic if you compare it to other less known Spanish destinations.
