A Waterfall Flowing Through a Village? Yes, and it’s in Spain!

Travel without expectations is pretty much a rule I live by. Not studying any guidebooks nor researching are my personal extension to this rule. When we traveled to Cantabria and stayed at Molino Tejada, we had no idea a place like Orbaneja del Castillo even existed!

Our weekend was like a clean canvas that suddenly came to life. Waterfalls flowing through villages is something you’d expect of maybe the Philippines.

Actually, Orbaneja del Castillo is in Burgos, only an hour away from the hotel. We visited the village as per the hotel’s recommendation. It’s one of the highlights of the region, and it’s not hard to understand why.

But this isn’t the only place we loved. Something as simple as a nice walk by the river or an adventure through the dusty roads of Cantabria brought as wonderful adventures.

Well, I’m not done bragging about this place. I guess the snow on the ground of these pictures has already ticked that off of my list of things to mention but yes, it felt like minus one thousand degrees!

After a few minutes spent reminiscing about how amazing our day was and how we couldn’t quite believe where we were the obligatory snow fun commenced! Making snow angels, painting pictures with our footprints and the good old fashioned snowball fight all took place.

I’ve seen a lot of breathtakingly amazing venues in my time but there are still so many occasions when I encounter something new and have to pinch myself in a realization that places like these actually exist outside of the realms of my imagination. Now I’m officially in love with road trips.

You see, people in Cantabria are surrounded by nature. Horses and donkeys are part of the landscape, and they love you back! We found a horse accompanied by two donkeys. We thought he felt lonely and played horse sounds on Youtube. He was so happy he actually started talking back!

Like nothing I’ve ever seen or even dreamed before, each and every one is unique and each and every one magnificent.

For your next weekend, I have some Do’s and Dont’s:

  • DO’s: Adventure yourself into the green Cantabrian landscapes.
  • DON’T: Stay home doing the same things you always do.

Until next time!
