The Raw Nature and Elegance of Asturias, Spain

Check out the best Hotels in Asturias!!

Spain is many things: beach, bullfighting, and flamenco. What many tourists are unaware of is the rich heritage of northern Spain. Asturias in particular. We were looking for a weekend getaway somewhere we hadn’t been before. Oviedo, we thought, had the raw nature and mystique we live for.

We did a little research and quickly realized how much Asturias has to offer. We came up with a list of like 20 things to do. Luckily the hotel’s team helped us to narrow it down. Bingo! We had a winner.

Llanes: Our Favourite Spot

Llanes came on top of our list of favorite spots in Spain. We just don’t know why Game of Thrones hasn’t filmed there yet because the landscape is just dreamy. It’s raw nature with green lands, agitated seas, rocky mountains and snow on the horizon. So cool!

There are various ways to get there but if you can drive that would be best. The road has stunning sights of hills and snow. A great commencement of our trip!

We took a walk by the sea cliffs and found the company of free-roaming farm animals: horses, ducks and even pigs – So fat these lazy ones!

Be aware that you will need to rent a car if you want to get the most out of this land. Prices in Spain are ridiculous – we rented a Polo for 35€ the whole weekend! We used RentalCars.com to compare prices from different car rental companies.

Other cool places to visit

We don’t like adding promotional videos but I felt this one truly reflects what you will find in Asturias.

Did you know that 1/3 of Asturias has a protected natural environment? There are 6 biosphere reserves in the area! If I had to recommend only 1, I would ask you to go to Picos de Europa National Park.

Another great option is to visit the fishing villages. There are 19 of them and over 200 small beaches.

Gorgeous photos! I too adore Asturias and have spent time cycling around its apple scented countryside. I probably prefer Gijon to Oviedo, but they’re both lovely spots, perfect for a weekend break, or longer.
