Our first trip of 2018 was to Oviedo, a small mining city in Asturias, our new favourite destination in Spain. Cities in Northern Spain have a different vibe. Elegant, ancient, Oviedo has the best tapas we have tried and its rocky streets lead to wild nature. In the middle of this tension is Ayre Hotel, a stunning hotel with the modern architecture and bold design of a high-end boutique hotel.
I am a big admirer of Santiago Calatrava so it was an honor to be a proud guest of the Ayre Hotel. Even if the name doesn’t ring a bell, you sure know some of his works: the New World Trade Center’s Transport Hub in New York, or the twisting tower in Sweden.
The hotel team was incredibly attentive at all times. Our suite had two spaces: bedroom and living room, with glass-walls around it. From the room, we could see the snowed mountains on the horizon.
The most incredible surprise was waiting for us in the room. A picture of our dog Maria! The hotel had left a welcome note for us, and a little gift for Maria. She loved it!
We joked that we want our New York apartment to look like the hotel: clean, modern, cozy, bright. The views were amazing too!
The SPA is private, so you book a slot and have it just for yourself. Enjoy the bubbles!
And remember, Oviedo is just the beginning of your Asturias adventure! From Gijon to Llanes, there is plenty to see. Watch this space for updates!
