As it gets colder in Madrid, I took my boyfriend to Mallorca for his birthday! We had never been there before and we like to be surprised so we didn’t do much research and just flew there!
Needless to say, we were MIND. BLOWN.
We could have never imagined the beauty of this island. In the next few lines, I’m going to tell you more about my experience and what you should and should not do!
We were at two different destinations within Mallorca: Portal Nous and Palma de Mallorca and I recommend that you visit them both.
This is more of an out-of-town experience. If you have time, spend 3-4 days here and rent a car to explore the island. We stayed at OD Port Portals and they have small cars you can take from the hotel. And guess what? They also have electric bikes! How cool is that?
Palma de Mallorca
This was another incredible place. We spent 2 days there and will be publishing a blog post about it soon! You should really spend a few nights in Palma, and a few nights in Portal Nous so you will get to explore the island in full!
When to go to Mallorca
The island is in the Mediterranean sea so you can enjoy mild, nice temperature throughout the year. We were there in November, and we enjoyed short-sleeve, sunny weather. The average for the weekend was 17° which is great in comparison to Madrid’s 1°. You can also visit Mallorca in summer, from June to September. If you do, get ready for beach, sunshine and the occasional boat ride!
What to do in Mallorca
Chill in OD Port Portals
First, I would say you need to chill at the hotel, OD Port Portals. Most of the pictures in this blog post are shot there and it was one of the most beautiful hotels I have seen. In fact, this is where my boyfriend took his most favorite picture to date!
The breakfast was REALLY good with authentic Spanish ham! If you haven’t tried it before, this is how you do it: Toast bread. Actual bread, not the mold one. Put some olive oil, a little bit of black pepper, and enjoy!
Watch the most beautiful sunset on the planet
Judge for yourself. #nofilter. This was actually a recommendation from the hotel team. They knew the island by the hearth and gave us a few pointers on where to go. So coooooooooooool! This was at Mirador de Sa Foradada.
Explore the villages
Go to Soller and Valldemossa, you will thank me later! True Mediterranean villages.
Gin & Burger at OD Port Portals
This hotel organizes a really cool event on Fridays. The food was super yummy and you could choose three out of two types of burgers, accompanied by one of many different types of gin tonic. Spain is indeed and gin tonic country!
Where to Stay in Mallorca
OD Port Portals is one of the best hotels we’ve been to. It is quite a new hotel and you can tell every detail has been looked after. The pool has a rock, giving it that Mediterranean feel, and the balcony floor had typically-Mallorquinian stones. It’s nice to see hotels respecting the local vibe!
The rooms were very spacious and the inside was modern – it made you feel very comfortable. The shades of neutral colors gave harmony, and the bathroom has a view so you can see the sea while you shower. So cooooool!
Mallorca, we love you.
