Guide to Toledo: What to do, Where to Stay and What to eat!

What if I told you there is a medieval city in Spain that produces the swords you have seen in Game of Thrones and The Lord of The Rings? But enough geeky facts — how about the castles, towers and olive fields extending beyond the horizon?

Toledo is a small, UNESCO heritage site near Madrid. It can be seen in one day but I would strongly recommend spending at least 1 night there. Keep reading and you will understand why.

What to do in Toledo

Toledo is the perfect romantic or family getaway. The old town is stunning and accessible through one of the many defensive gates to the city. The places you must see are:

  • Puerta de Bisagra
  • Primada Cathedral
  • San Juan de Los Reyes monastery
  • Bridge of San Martin

For the best view of Toledo, head to Mirador del Valle, our favorite spot! It is beautiful at sunset and night — don’t miss it!

If you are into adventures, check out Fly Toledo, the longest urban zip line in Europe! It was a great experience and they were super nice for only 10€!

Best Hotel in Toledo

We stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel in the outskirts of Toledo by the name of Villa Nazules Hotel and SPA. Follow the link so learn more about it!

If you think it’s best to have a room near the city centre… you are mistaken! Perhaps the best thing about this hotel is its location! It was SO beautiful! We loved it so much that we’ve prepared a separate blog post about it!

Where to Eat

Toledo is very lively and full of little bars and restaurants. We love good food so we looked for a special place that would make our Toledo experience unforgettable.

We went for La Alacena, a top rated restaurant by the TripAdvisor community. They specialize in rice and the food was delicious!

How to get to Toledo

You can arrive to Toledo by train or bus but we wanted to be fully autonomous and comfortable so we decided to rent a car in Madrid. We tried a new collaborative service called SocialCar, a rental company that lets you rent cars from other people. We loved it! Actually, I don’t see us ever using regular car rental companies again. This was so much better.

We got a nice car for a really low price, and the process was easy and convenient. They even have a Whatsapp number in which you can contact them at any time. Had we not had a car, we would have missed SO MANY things.
